A home engagement session is not something we commonly do. But when the opportunity to try something new comes around, you take it. Read on to see how this home engagement session came to be.

Our story with Dominique & Mike goes back to the pre pandemic days when things weren’t so complicated with Covid rampantly making its rounds.

After reaching out to us and scheduling our initial consultation a week later, we looked forward to meeting them both as they sounded so lovely. Our kind of people! Just a few days later around 6pm, Jess and I were chilling in our living room, chatting about our day and planning our weekend when suddenly the doorbell rings. Now we don’t have a lot of people ringing our doorbell on the best of days so naturally we looked at each other inquisitively. As I walked to the door in some of the rattiest comfy pants and t-shirt I own, there stood two shadows waiting for the door to open. Naturally I was curious to see who it was.

Our consultation resulted in an instant connection. The kind that makes us sigh with hopes that we have the opportunity to work with them. We look for connection with our clients because that closeness gives us a deeper understanding of what’s important to them. It allows us to bring out more emotion during their engagement session.

As I open the door, I’m greeted by two of the happiest people I have ever met. As they stood there smiling from ear to ear, I waited for the sales pitch. It never came. Given the awkward silence and perplexed look on my face, they looked at each other and suddenly realized they had shown up for their consultation a week early. At that moment, all I thought was how thankful I was that our house is always clean! As they apologized and turned to head back home, I invited them in and asked for a moment so we could run and change. As is our approach with weddings, the show must go on!

When it came time to plan Dominique & Mike’s engagement session, they suggested doing it at home. This is something we don’t do often as most people chose outdoor settings with nature elements. Home engagement sessions are a fantastic way of personalizing your photos to have more meaning. Doing things you love together in a comfortable setting that brings out who you are together.

This was a really fun home engagement session. Not everyone is up for these but we really feel it brings out people’s personalities a bit more when they are comfortable in their own space. We’ll definitely be recommending these in the future. Now we can’t wait for their wedding in October at Le Manoir de la Foret!
