Kristin and Bruce did the thing this past September and had their wedding at ambroisie in Montreal. It’s a very unique venue that offers such interesting decor and provided us with a really fun backdrop the entire evening. Really awesome place that we highly recommend if you want something different and a little more on the industrial side.
We’re going in a new direction with our blog posts to provide more interesting and engaging content for our couples. This is our very first attempt at giving our readers valuable information and who better to provide that info than the couples themselves!
With the amount of weddings we photograph, it can be difficult to come up with an original blog post every time that really encapsulates how great a wedding was. We could never do them justice and felt it would be better coming from couples themselves. With that in mind, we recently decided to ask them a few questions that we hope will provide valuable information and insight for those of you getting married.
The First Time They Met
When I first met Bruce I was “dating” (4-5 dates) one of his best friends. That night his friend had invited me to hang out with him at Bruces house. When I got there, I spent the entire time talking to Bruce – in fact so much that when asked about that night, his friend says he felt like a third wheel. His friend and I ended our relationship the following week…lol. Bruce quickly retrieved my number from his friend and later texted to ask me out. At first I thought it was weird and almost said no. Determined, he somehow convinced me to have one drink with him so we made plans to go out.
The night of our first date, his babysitter cancelled so instead of going out I cooked us dinner. (Homemade mac and cheese and salad) I brought it over to his place and had supper with him and his son Dylan. After that night, we were inseparable! We were so in sync, same sense of humour, finishing each other’s sentences. I think it was a day or 2 later that i brought a toothbrush, face wash etc and left things at his place. He had made room for my things in his bathroom before i even asked.
The Proposal
It was the night before I was to leave for christmas vacation with my family. I was spending the night at his place because I had a 5 am flight and he lived 10 min from the airport. It was after supper and i was cleaning the kitchen. Dylan and Bruce came up to me as i washing dishes and Dylan asked me if I would marry his daddy and be his mommy. It was very unexpected. I cried and laughed and didn’t hesitate in saying yes to Dylan and Bruce.
The Vendors
I wanted a venue in Montreal that reminded me of the distillery district in Toronto. L’Ambroisie was the perfect old vintage industrial kind of feel. The venue coordinator was the one who recommended all the vendors. She made planning the wedding super easy it was apparent that they had the experience to pull everything together as they have done for others. The decorations were all done by family and friends who have known me for years. They understood my vision and I couldn’t have been happier with the end result.
What was the bride’s favourite part of the day?
Definitely the part right after the ceremony. It just felt so amazing to look at the beautiful family that Bruce and I had created and standing up there all together making our family “official” in front of all of our friends and family. There is one picture at the alter with Bruce holding our son Wyatt while I held Dylan’s hand and as I look at that picture everything just feels complete. It was the perfect moment.
What was the groom’s favourite part?
Bruce’s favourite part of the wedding was watching me walk down the aisle. He also loved the music and our impromptu dance at the reception.
What advice would you have for anyone planning their wedding?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends and family. You don’t have to do it all yourself. Also, don’t go nuts spending hours and hours trying make everything perfect – there is no such thing as perfect. Make sure to enjoy every moment as much as you can and don’t sweat the small stuff. Just have fun and enjoy being present. Make sure to eat and drink and not worry about the details. Others can do that for you. That night went by so fast and before you know its over.
